South Africa's oldest practising specialist, ear, nose and throat surgeon Dr John Callaghan, is preparing to celebrate his 100th birthday on the 12th of August, after more than 70 years in medicine.
The Pretoria doctor, who is 99, continues to see patients after scaling back his practice earlier this year and remains active by regularly going to the gym.
Dr Callaghan is recognised as a pioneer in treating voice and larynx disorders and says his lifelong focus has always been providing the best possible care for his patients.

Provincial Hiking Day boosts tourism and healthy living in North West

More than 450 hikers gathered in the border town of Zeerust for the North West Provincial Hiking Day, bringing visitors together to explore the scenic Klein Marico region.
The annual event, organised by the Department of Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation with local hiking clubs, encouraged outdoor recreation, healthy living and a greater appreciation for the natural environment.
