Woman credits pet dog with helping detect breast cancer
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A woman from the United Kingdom believes her pet chihuahua helped save her life after repeatedly pawing under her arm for years, prompting her to investigate the unusual behaviour and discover a small lump beneath her breast.
The 61 year old was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer that had already spread to her lymph nodes.
Following surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she is now cancer free and says her dog stopped pawing at her arm after her first round of treatment.
Doctors told her it is not uncommon for dogs to detect changes linked to certain illnesses through their keen sense of smell.
