The 22nd King Edward the 7th School Easter Rugby and Hockey Festival has kicked off in Johannesburg, bringing an exciting opening day filled with top schoolboy sport. More than 900 participants are competing across 54 matches, as teams from across South Africa and visiting sides from Australia take to the field.Beyond the results, the festival remains a celebration of community and connection. Old boys return to relive memories, families gather to support the next generation, and friendships are forged on and off the field.

Ten-year-old Kitana Inderpal has been selected to compete at the AsiaRope International English Olympiad in Thailand, after excelling at national level. She achieved Gold status, placed third in the South African Olympiad national round, and secured second place in the AsiaRope national round. Now, she’ll face competitors from 10 to 20 countries, gaining valuable global exposure at a young age.Her upcoming trip is estimated to cost around R75,000, covering travel and competition expenses. While her family is committed to supporting her, they are seeking additional help to make this opportunity possible.

Santa Shoebox Project Opens 2026 Applications

The Santa Shoebox Project is inviting South African schools and Early Childhood Development centres to apply to receive support in 2026. Applications are open and close on 23 April, with selection confirmed by mid-June. Selected facilities will receive personalised shoeboxes containing food, clothing, stationery and toys, and may also get refurbished ECD spaces, reading corners, and teacher training. The initiative focuses on vulnerable children in both urban and rural areas, helping them access necessities and support for early education.
