Joburg Ballet is presenting the world premiere of Celestial Bodies at the Joburg Theatre from 3 to 12 October.
The production fuses contemporary dance, live music and striking visuals to explore cosmic themes, creating a unique blend of science and art on stage.
Choreographed by Naledi Award-winner Mario Gaglione in collaboration with physicist Dr. Luca Pontiggia and composer Yasheen Modi, the show aims to make science emotionally resonant through movement.
Performances take place at the Nelson Mandela Theatre, forming part of Joburg Ballet’s Spring Season of Dance.
Audiences can expect a visually stunning and innovative theatrical experience that pushes the boundaries of traditional ballet.

Heidi van der Merwe, a liver cancer survivor from Paarl, South Africa, has begun a solo motorcycle journey across Africa to raise awareness about the disease.
Diagnosed while pregnant, she is the only known survivor of her type and the world’s second-longest liver cancer survivor.
Riding her Harley-Davidson with her dog, Harley, she aims to educate communities about liver cancer, promote prevention, and inspire others facing similar challenges.
The journey also supports her non-profit, One Life One Liver, which focuses on liver cancer awareness and prevention.
Van der Merwe’s courage and determination are drawing attention across the continent to the importance of early detection and ongoing support for patients.

German tourists Gina Haerle and her friend Marina surprised their driver with his very first safari while on holiday in South Africa.
The driver, who had never been on a safari, was delighted when they bought him a ticket and revealed the surprise upon arriving at a private game reserve near Cape Town.
The highlight for him was seeing lions up close and capturing photos of the majestic animals.
