South Africa celebrates World Tourism Day

As Saturday marked World Tourism Day, government leaders, industry players, and communities gathered in Johannesburg to celebrate South Africa's unique place on the global travel map.
The tourism minister Patricia de Lille says Tourism contributes at least 8.5% to the country’s GDP.
She says South Africa welcomed over 880,000 visitors in July alone, which is a 26% increase compared to last year.
The Minister also confirmed that tourism startups in South Africa had attracted over $39 million in venture capital between 2019 and 2024.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal says the recently held inaugural KwaZulu-Natal Blind Cricket Ladies Team training camp was a major step forward for disability sport, gender equity and cricket development in South Africa.
The ground-breaking initiative was lead by the KwaZulu-Natal Association of Blind Cricket and saw participation from women across the province.
The camp involved an intensive three-day programme of skills training, match play, leadership development and team building.
