New Technology Filters Microplastics From Wastewater
Teaser / Tailpiece story
Two Princeton University graduates have developed a large scale filtration system that removes microplastics from wastewater, with the technology already being tested in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Their startup, PolyGone Systems, designed the device to mimic water repellent plants that attract plastic particles, allowing them to be collected and sent for recycling.
Laboratory tests showed that an early prototype removed up to 98 percent of microplastic particles. A two year pilot programme will test whether the technology can achieve similar results at commercial scale.
