Sowetans inspired to go green with clean-up and tree-planting drive
Story 1
Soweto Tourism led a clean-up and tree-planting campaign on 23 October 2025 in White City.
Volunteers planted trees at the June 16 Memorial Acre and Morris Isaacson High School to promote a cleaner, greener environment.
The initiative, now in its fourth edition since April, has already donated trees to 50 schools and aims to reach 100.
Community members and government stakeholders, including Johannesburg City Parks and Pikitup, joined forces to encourage Sowetans to take care of their surroundings and reduce littering.
Organisers hope the campaign will inspire long-term environmental responsibility across Soweto.

Drones Lead the Way in Keeping Australia’s Beaches Safer
Story 3
Australia is taking shark safety to new heights with drones playing a vital role in protecting swimmers along its coastline.
More than a thousand sharks were spotted off New South Wales in the past year, allowing lifesavers to warn beachgoers and guide the animals safely back to sea.
The high-tech approach, which includes tracking devices and real-time alerts through the Shark Smart app, is reducing risks while preserving marine life.
Researchers are also developing bite-resistant wetsuits and electronic deterrents that cut shark bite incidents by more than half.
Experts say these innovations make Australia a world leader in shark bite prevention.
