Gauteng earns R1 Billion from G20 visitor spend

The Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille says Gauteng has pulled in an estimated R1 billion in revenue from visitors who attended the G20 events in the province.

This is an early estimation of tourism revenue made by Gauteng during South Africa’s G20 presidency.

More than 130 meetings were hosted across the country, with the majority of talks on the bloc’s policy priorities held in Gauteng.

De Lille says arrivals from the United States have now surpassed inbound tourists from the United Kingdom.

ICASA approves Vumatel and Vodacom Fiber business merger

The Independent communications authority of South Africa ICASA, has approved the merger of Vumatel and telecommunications group Vodacom's fiber business.

The conditions of the merger include capital expenditure worth R2 billion per year, for the next few years.

The companies will also install fiblre to more than 1 million homes in townships across South Africa.

The Gauteng Education Department launched the the L.I.S.T.E.N Science Space at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, a collaborative initiative between the China Association for Science and Technology and the China Science and Technology Museum.

The 200-square-metre world-class space blends cultural heritage, science and innovation and aims to
inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers & tech leaders.

The Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane, has urged schools to make visits to the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre compulsory in order to boost STEM literacy.

The MEC says the facility will help inspire the next generation of scientists in Gauteng.
