Johannesburg celebrates the return of 145 Iconic Artworks

145 artworks from the Johannesburg Art Gallery's international touring exhibition have returned to Johannesburg following a decade-long extensive international tour.

The collection which features works by artists including Picasso, was celebrated in a new "Homecoming" exhibition at the Standard Bank Art Gallery.

The exhibition reflects a wide range of geographical, cultural and historical contexts, with some pieces dating back to the 17th century.

The Artworks were displayed in galleries in Italy, South Korea and Hungary.

Standard Bank’s Yolisa Koza explained that the purpose of the exhibition is not only to celebrate the return of the city’s prized collection but also to reignite the role of art as the heartbeat of Johannesburg and a catalyst for Africa’s progress.

Tshwane hosts Entrepreneurs and Farmers Market Day

The City of Tshwane hosted its entrepreneurs and farmers market day in church Square earlier this week.

The market accommodated more than 100 vendors, including farmers, artists and crafters, who showcased their products to potential investors.

Tshwane Mayor, Dr Nasiphi Moya, says the municipality is committed to leveraging the city’s assets to encourage economic activity and has assured residents that the market will be the first of many to be hosted in the city.

ICASA approves Vumatel and Vodacom Fiber business merger

The Independent communications authority of South Africa ICASA, has approved the merger of Vumatel and telecommunications group Vodacom's fiber business.

The conditions of the merger include capital expenditure worth R2 billion per year, for the next few years.

The companies will also install fiblre to more than 1 million homes in townships across South Africa.

28th Africa Tech Festival connects 15,000 global attendees in Cape Town

South Africa hosted the 28th annual Africa Tech Festival at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Over 15000 global attendees and more than 300 exhibitors came together, connecting the local ecosystem with the world, while reaffirming the city’s status as Africa’s Tech capital.

The festival is Africa’s biggest showcase of Tech innovation across key sectors including cybersecurity, connectivity, cloud and data centres, ICT and Entertainment.
