Guide Dogs Teach Johannesburg School Learners
Story 1
The South African Guide-Dogs Association visited Fourways High School and Bryanston High School in Johannesburg to teach learners about assistance dogs.
Learners interacted with trained guide dogs and learned how they support people living with disabilities.
The visit formed part of an awareness programme aimed at improving understanding of inclusion and disability support.
School staff say the sessions help learners learn about challenges faced by people with disabilities and the role of assistance animals.

100 Portable Desks Support Hospital Learners
Story 2
More than 100 portable study desks have been donated to paediatric wards across the province, helping young patients keep up with school during lengthy hospital stays.
The fold-out desks, which transform from a mobile trolley into a bedside workstation, are now being used at major hospitals including Steve Biko Academic, Chris Hani Baragwanath and Charlotte Maxeke.
The project was sparked when a paediatric doctor saw a child trying to complete homework while waiting at a rural clinic. That encounter led to a partnership with non-profit organisation MiDesk Global to create a practical learning solution for hospitalised children.
Healthcare workers say the portable desks are making it easier for teachers to continue lessons while patients undergo treatment.
