China to Bring Back Asteroid Rocks

China launched the Tianwen-2 spacecraft yesterday on a Long March 3B rocket. The spacecraft will travel to an asteroid which is about 10 million miles away. Rock samples will be collected and sent back to Earth in 2027. China now joins Japan and the U.S. in collecting asteroid samples. Japan's first mission was in 2010 and 2019, while the U.S. followed in 2020. The target asteroid, Kamoʻoalewa, has been moving around the sun near Earth for about 100 years and is between 40 to 100 meters in size.
