Young South Africans are being encouraged to take up new opportunities in the country's growing energy sector.
Speaking at the Youth in Energy Conference in Johannesburg, Electricity and Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa said renewable energy, electricity transmission and critical minerals could create jobs and new businesses.
He said about 1.6 million South African households still do not have electricity, creating opportunities for young entrepreneurs to develop energy solutions.
Government says it wants young people to help build the country's future energy industry.

Amaoti bakkie delivers hope to families

A community organisation in Amaoti , KwaZulu-Natal, is using a single bakkie to deliver food, transport families and support literacy programmes for children.
Lungisani Indlela uses the vehicle to take social workers into the community, collect food donations and help families access Home Affairs services.
The bakkie also transports volunteers to schools, where they help learners improve their reading skills.
The organisation is seeking support to cover fuel costs so it can continue providing these services.

The index assessed countries based on healthcare, visa accessibility, health insurance requirements, cost of living and how easily retirees can settle into local communities.
South Africa ranked behind the Philippines, Thailand, Colombia and Portugal in the global survey.
The report says retirees who choose South Africa contribute to the economy by buying property, supporting local businesses and spending in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
