Partnership to restore hearing for 25 patients begins with first surgeries
Story 2
A partnership between the Ear and Eye Clinic, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, AboutSound and Good Morning Angels has begun providing cochlear implant surgery to 25 children and adults waiting for treatment.
The first three life changing procedures have already been completed, with the Meyersdal clinic donating theatre time and specialist expertise to reduce costs and help address surgical backlogs in the public healthcare system.
The initiative aims to give patients faster access to hearing restoration, with doctors stressing that early intervention is especially important for children to support speech and language development.
