UP veterinary students provide animal care in Tembisa community

University of Pretoria Veterinary Science students provided essential healthcare support to pets and livestock during an outreach visit in Tembisa.
Working with the Society for Animals in Distress, the Production Animal Mobile Outreach clinic team provided vaccinations, deworming treatments, health checks and advice to animal owners at the Winnie Mandela Coal Yard.
The students also helped care for cattle and goats while building relationships with community members and promoting better animal welfare practices.

Two brothers who were struggling to make ends meet have received life changing support after an unexpected encounter with South African philanthropist Bi Phakathi at a petrol station.
After learning the men could not afford fuel to get home following a long day's work, Phakathi paid for their full tank.
Weeks later, he surprised them again with a trolley full of groceries and R6,000 raised by donors who were inspired by their story.
The brothers say the support has given them hope for a better future.
