University of Pretoria Hosts Africa’s First United Nations University Hub to Drive Sustainable Solutions

The University of Pretoria has proudly become the first institution in Africa and the Global South to host a United Nations University Hub, known as REACH-AFRICA.
Located at UP’s cutting-edge Future Africa Campus, this hub focuses on tackling major challenges like climate change, food and water insecurity, and public health through African-led research and innovation.
UP joins a select group of top global universities hosting UNU Hubs, reinforcing its role as a continental leader in science and sustainability.
REACH-AFRICA will also house the African Academy for Water, Environment and Health, promoting collaboration and capacity building across Africa with an emphasis on gender equality.
The purpose of this hub is to empower African scientists and policymakers to develop locally driven, sustainable solutions that build resilience and improve health and environmental outcomes across the continent.

Standard Bank and SA Future Trust Celebrate Top Female Entrepreneurs

For the second year running, Standard Bank partners with the South African Future Trust to honour South Africa’s leading female entrepreneurs through the Women in Business Award.
This award recognises women who show resilience, innovation, and leadership while overcoming barriers and supporting inclusivity in their industries.
The winner receives a R500,000 prize, including cash, mentorship, business resources, and strategic guidance to grow her business.
The initiative highlights the importance of networks and expert support alongside funding to help women entrepreneurs scale successfully.
Applications for the awards close on July 31, 2025, with winners announced at the South African Future Trust Summit in November at the Sandton Convention Centre.

Georgina Mphatswe Brings Hope to Randfontein Orphanage

Community champion Georgina Mapule Mphatswe visited the Mphe Seriti Orphanage and Vulnerable Children’s Drop-in Centre in Randfontein, to lend a helping hand.
The centre supports children who have lost their parents, provides daily meals, and offers homework assistance.
Georgina donated clothes and a large supply of groceries to help the centre continue its vital work. She has supported the orphanage for five years and plans her contributions carefully to make the biggest impact.
Her continued efforts show how one person can make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children and the broader community.
