Township Rugby Youth to host TRY Festival in Johannesburg

Township Rugby Youth will host the TRY Festival this Saturday at Bill Jardine Stadium in Industria, Johannesburg, bringing together sport, culture, and youth development.
The festival will feature 12 township rugby clubs, with male and female teams and players aged 18 to 32 competing in knockout matches.
Founded in 2023, the Township Rugby Youth programme was created to build pathways from township communities into education and professional sporting opportunities.
Organisers say the festival gives township players a platform to showcase their talent in front of scouts and sports administrators.
The event runs from 8am to 5:30pm.

A South African-born project tackling one of AI’s biggest blind spots, nature, has won the Startup Innovation Award for Top AI Sustainability Project at Davos Innovation Week during the World Economic Forum.
Project ZOA, founded in the Garden Route by Douglas Eriksen, collects real wildlife and ecosystem information and turns it into data that AI can use. This helps technology take nature into account when making decisions.
The initiative is a partnership between Zindalo, Wits Enterprise, and Cango Wildlife, which provides the infrastructure for Project ZOA’s data collection and verification.
The project was shown to global policymakers and technology investors and aims to protect ecosystems, guide smarter development, and showcase South African conservation to the world.
