An Eastern Cape grandmother has regained her sight after living in darkness for four years following free cataract surgery performed by the medical team from Grace Vision during an outreach near Mthatha.
Grace Vision is a South African non-profit organisation that provides free primary eye care and cataract surgery to people in rural communities who cannot afford treatment.
Nowisile Nokhulela lost her eyesight in 2022. During those years, her husband became her full-time caregiver, guiding her through daily tasks and taking over the work they once shared.
After the surgery, Nowisile said she was grateful to see again, while her husband said it felt like he had “got his partner back,” as they look forward to sharing life side by side.
