Professor Eldrid Jordaan recognised for inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs

South African Technologist Professor Eldrid Jordaan has been awarded the prestigious Lifetime Award for his role as a mentor to young entrepreneurs.

The accolade was presented in Sandton alongside the United Nations Population Fund Youth Digital Health Summit for 2025.

The award recognises Jordaan’s leadership and long-standing commitment to promoting public-interest innovation across Africa.

Jordaan described the recognition as deeply meaningful, and says the honour reinforces the urgent need to invest in young African talent.
He says the continent’s future will be built by the courage, creativity and conviction of our youth.

Mbulelo Gobo and Kerapetse Booi lead young debaters to success

Mbulelo Gobo and Kerapetse Booi from Kimberley in the Northern Cape achieved the highest honours in university debating and are now giving back by nurturing young debating talent across the province.

The pair founded the Northern Cape Schools Debating Association in 2020 and have dedicated years of mentorship and sacrifice to the initiative.

The Association recently fielded two high school teams at the 2025 National Debating Championships in the Free State.

eThekwini on track for R2 Billion spend this festive season

eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba says the city is on track to reach its target of over 1 million visitors and over R2 billion economic spend by the end of the festive season.

Xaba says the city has also seen a strong turnout at key events and an increase in accommodation occupancy, tour operations and cruise passenger arrivals.

The Mayor, says the total recorded attendance at 11 signature events in the city currently stands at 83,000, with a projected additional 61,000 attendees expected between late December and early January.

South Africa named the most generous country

A new international study conducted by digital financial services provider Remitly ranked South Africa the ‘most generous’ country, with a score of 51.57 out of 60.

The study, which assessed more than four-thousand-500 people across 25 countries, measured generosity not through money or material giving, but through broader human behaviour including empathy, emotional support, patience, kindness and a willingness to put others first.

The Philippines secured second place, with the United States ranked third.
