Teen Builds Solar EV Charging App at Hermanus Showcase
Story 2
Connor Lewis, a 17-year-old pupil from Curro Hermanus, has developed an app that calculates the exact solar panel wattage needed to charge an electric vehicle.
He unveiled the app at EV Now’s EVs on Display showcase in Hermanus, where attendees also explored models including a Tesla and an electric G-Wagon.
The app factors in home solar output, location-based weather data, and vehicle battery specs to provide real-time charging calculations, and can even add EVs manually if not on the preloaded list.
Connor built the working software in just two hours, without AI or external assistance, winning a R10,000 electric scooter for his achievement.
