nnesburg libraries promote youth literacy on World Book Day

The City of Johannesburg’s Library and Information Services marked World Book and Copyright Day by expanding access to reading and writing skills for young people.
Learners from several local schools gathered at Florida Library last Thursday, where they took part in reading activities and engaged with authors.
Writer and media personality Salamina Mosese shared her writing journey and encouraged learners to tell their own stories.
The programme aims to build literacy, support young writers and connect them to opportunities in the creative economy.

Vezukukhanya learners receive uniforms and supplies

Learners at Vezukukhanya Primary School in KwaZulu-Natal received uniforms, shoes and learning materials through a donation from Blue Sky Society and the Zululand Conservation Trust.
The organisations provided 161 learners with school uniforms and shoes, distributed wildlife education booklets, and used recycled packaging for the items.
They also planted fruit and shade trees on the school grounds .
The project combined learning support and environmental action by supplying school resources and introducing tree planting at the school.

South Africa wins 4x100m relays at Simbine Classic

South Africa won the 4×100-metre men’s and women’s relay at the inaugural Simbine Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting held in Tshwane.
Cameroonian Emmanuel Eseme crossed the finish line in 10.03-seconds to win the men’s 100-metres.
Akani Simbine pulled up injured midway through the race and finished last.
South Africa’s Prudence Sekgodiso won the women’s 1,500-metres while Tshepo Tshite took the men’s 3,000-metres.
Kenya’s Noah Kibet won the men’s 800-metres.

Japan Airlines to start using humanoid robot at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

Japan Airlines will start using humanoid robots in ground handling tasks at Tokyo’s Haneda airport from next month in a two-year trial aimed at easing employees’ workload.
The Chinese-made robots will be deployed to load and unload cargo containers.
The airline hopes they can in future also be used to clean cabins and operate ground support equipment.
The carrier says using robots for physically demanding tasks will provide significant benefits to employees, although some duties, including safety management, can only be handled by humans.
