Diageo programme opens doors for South African youth in hospitality

Diageo South Africa, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg and Yes4Youth, launched its 2025/26 Learning for Life programme at UJ’s Auckland Park Bunting Road campus in Gauteng.
The programme, now in its second intake, offers young graduates work-integrated learning and skills development in the hospitality sector.
Alumni from the first intake, including Precious Dube, have already gained experience at leading establishments such as The Four Seasons hotel, building confidence and professionalism.
The initiative also aligns with South Africa’s economic and infrastructure growth plans, helping bridge the gap between education and employment.

Secunda community builds Christmas tree from donated crochet squares

A mall in Secunda, Mpumalanga, has completed a 6-metre Christmas tree made from 2,600 donated crochet granny squares.
The project began earlier this year, with local residents contributing squares and yarn to create the festive display.
After the holiday season, the remaining squares will be turned into blankets for those in need, spreading warmth beyond the decorations.
The initiative attracted widespread community support, with over 3,000 squares donated in total.

German cyclist completes 19,000km journey to Cape of Good Hope

Twenty-seven-year-old Cyprian from Germany has completed a 19,000-kilometre cycling journey from Flensburg, Germany, to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
The 15-month adventure took him through 26 countries, covering daily distances of 70 to 90 kilometres while camping along the way.
During the trip, he documented his journey on a personal blog and experienced support from local communities across Africa.
He arrived at the Cape of Good Hope on 28 October 2025, marking the end of his long-distance cycling challenge.
