The City of Johannesburg's emergency management services is urging residents to exercise extreme caution around water as the warmer weather sets in.
With more people planning outdoor activities, EMS is emphasizing the importance of avoiding unsafe water areas to prevent accidents and drownings.
In a recent media statement, EMS media liaison officer Kagiso Phasha stressed that rivers, dams, and lakes are not safe for swimming, urging residents to stick to designated swimming pools and municipal facilities where trained lifeguards are present.
The department also reminded parents and guardians to vigilantly supervise children near water, whether at home or in public spaces.
