With today being Black Friday, consumers have been urged to make good money choices and avoid being scammed.
Consumers in South Africa spent over 30-billion-rand during Black Friday in 2024 through just three major banks.
Online shopping saw a significant boost, with a 14-percent increase in the number of customers transacting online.
Consumer advice center, JustMoney says consumers can avoid being scammed by using a credit card rather than a debit card, watching out for fake online stores, and not clicking on SMS or WhatsApp discount links.

CUT team invests smart wheelchair

A team from the Central University of Technology has unveiled a smart wheelchair called Motsamai, meaning "to walk" in Sesotho.
Designed to empower individuals with disabilities, Motsamai leverages AI for diagnostics and sensors for seamless communication.
Led by Professor Elisha Markus, the CUT team showcased their innovative invention at the annual Science Forum at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Pretoria.
Speaking to he SABC Professor Markus highlighted the wheelchair's capabilities, stating it's designed to assist people with walking and even dancing:

The 2026 New Venture Competition is now accepting applications, offering cash prizes and a chance to pitch at the Africa Business Conference in Boston next March.

The first 30 applicants get free help from Harvard MBA students to sharpen their plans.
