The 2nd China-Africa Forum on Green Energy Science and Technology Innovation was held in Johannesburg from 24 to 27 November 2025.
Hosted by Shandong Jianzhu University and organised by the University of Johannesburg, the event brought together experts from across Africa and China to discuss sustainable energy solutions and technological cooperation.
Presentations covered biomass energy, solar materials, hydrogen technologies, and low-carbon energy systems. Four thematic sessions explored green fuel conversion, solar energy, energy storage, and advanced energy technologies.
The forum strengthened China-Africa collaboration in research, technology transfer, and talent development, supporting the transition to sustainable and low-carbon energy.

Colombia bans new oil and mining projects in its Amazon

Colombia has become the first country to declare its entire Amazon region off-limits to new large-scale oil and mining projects.
The protected area covers around 42 percent of Colombia’s territory, roughly the size of Sweden, and seven percent of the Amazon rainforest.
The move allows only renewable and regenerative economic activities and aims to preserve biodiversity and prevent environmental degradation. Acting Environment Minister Irene Vélez Torres encouraged neighbouring countries to coordinate efforts to protect the Amazon’s integrity.
