The Johannesburg Metro Police Department has stepped up operations at Rosebank Mall to deal with illegal and unsafe delivery bike activities. This is part of a broader city effort to improve traffic safety and enforce by-laws. According to JMPD there has been a sharp rise in delivery bikes breaking the law, blocking roads and sidewalks, parking illegally, speeding, and ignoring traffic signals. According to reports, many drivers do not have valid driver’s licenses or bike registration papers. These issues pose safety risks, make it hard for pedestrians to move around, and add to traffic congestion.
