Eastgate Shopping Centre has introduced a South African Sign Language interpreting service to make shopping easier and more accessible for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. This initiative is in partnership with Convo South Africa, a company that specializes in communication solutions for the deaf communty. Shoppers who need assistance can simply scan QR codes located at customer service points throughout the centre. This will connect them to a live interpreter via video call, allowing them to communicate with store staff or ask for help in real time.

SA Surfer Ranked No 1 in the World

South African surfer Jordy Smith is now ranked number 1 in the world after winning the Margaret River Pro. This mid-season win put him ahead of rival Italo Ferreira in the World Surf League standings. At 37, Smith also became the first to win the Aussie Treble — the best overall results from the Bells, Burleigh, and Margaret River events. This victory marks his second Championship Tour win of the season, after winning in El Salvador. Smith celebrates after winning two Cape Town events in one year for the first time in his 18-year career. The Margaret River Pro is a key event, as it determines which surfers continue on the main tour and which are sent back to the qualifying series.
