Historic Peace Move as PKK Ends 40-Year Insurgency
Story 2
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, has officially agreed to disband and end its 40-year armed struggle against Turkey.
This decision follows their 12th Party Congress held in early May, where leaders agreed that Kurdish goals can now be achieved through political means.
Imprisoned founder Abdullah Öcalan called for laying down arms earlier this year, urging peace and dialogue.
The move has been welcomed by leaders across the region, including Turkey’s President Recep Erdoğan and the Iraqi Kurdistan president Nechirvan Barzani.
They see it as a major step towards lasting peace and stability for Kurds and the wider Middle East.
This historic decision promises a hopeful future, with dialogue and democracy replacing decades of conflict.

UJ Future Walk Blazes a Trail of Hope for Students in Need
Story 3
Auckland Park turned bright orange on Saturday, as hundreds took to the streets for the UJ Future Walk, raising funds for students facing financial strain.
Over 700 participants filled the leafy suburb, walking and running between UJ’s campuses in support of the “Missing Middle” – students who fall outside full government funding.
With support from Lucky Star, Spar, and Mentos, the event featured 2.5km, 5km and 10km routes, welcoming everyone from toddlers to top coaches.
Banyana Banyana’s Desiree Ellis and UJ’s Karabo Mogudi joined the 5km, while others tackled the 10km race in great spirits.
The walk, now in its sixth edition, continues to build momentum ahead of its flagship event in September, proving that small steps can make a big difference.
