The City of Ekurhuleni calls for patience and preparation ahead of Rand Water's maintenance programme

The City of Ekurhuleni is implementing measures to address a planned water outage due to Rand Water's maintenance operations.

The maintenance is scheduled for the 29th of May to the 2nd of June, causing water supply interruptions in various areas in Ekurhuleni.

The City says it will be deploying water tankers to the affected areas during the five-day project.

Rand water says the maintenance aims to achieve improved plant availability, reliability and efficiency.

Residents are urged to store water for domestic use and to use water sparingly.

The transport minister Barbara Creecy, has approved a R51 billion guarantee facility for state-owned Transnet, in support of the entity's capital investment programme.

Transnet plays a central role in the South African economy and the government’s goal of inclusive growth.

The State Owned entity is engaged in a wide-ranging reform programme to improve operational performance in the short and medium term.

Creecy expressed confidence that the additional support provided to Transnet would enable the entity to continue to drive operational improvements in the business and implement reforms in line with the Freight Logistics Roadmap.

The Trusted Tour Operator Scheme attracts over 11 000 tourists

A new digital visa scheme piloted by the home affairs department has drawn more than 11,000 tourists from China and India to South Africa in the last three months, with officials hailing it as a breakthrough for tourism and job creation.

The scheme, which operates in partnership with 65 tour operators, is aimed at addressing the long-standing visa challenges faced by travellers from two of the world's most populous countries.

The Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber welcomed the first group of visitors from China at the Cape Town International Airport, as part of the Scheme.

Home affairs minister Leon Schreiber announced that since the launch of the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme in late February, a total of 11,144 tourists have obtained digital visas to visit South Africa.
