LIV Golf set for 2027 return in Johannesburg

LIV Golf will return to The Club at Steyn City, South Africa from the 22nd of April next year, following a record-breaking 2026 event.
The debut drew over 100,000 fans, establishing the event as a major success and prompting the swift announcement of a 2027 return to Johannesburg.

SA Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, and LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil, highlighted the economic impact, including a projected R740 million in activity.

Tickets for the 2027 event were made available for an early-bird period following the announcement.

MathMoms Initiative transforms early maths literacy in the Cape flats

The South African non-profit initiative MathMoms is training unemployed women to provide remedial mathematics support to foundation phase learners in Grades 2 and 3 across 28 schools in the Cape Flats.

The programme pairs facilitators with small groups of learners, using interactive games such as dominoes and cards to teach basic concepts of addition and multiplication.

Founded in 2016 in Elsies River, in Cape Town the initiative has expanded to communities including Lavender Hill, Athlone, Steenberg and Kensington.

Each participating school has seven facilitators, supported by a mentor who oversees lessons.

Communications manager Judy-Ann Cilliers says the women receive extensive mathematics training, opening up future career opportunities. The programme also includes life skills and financial literacy training, with participants earning a stipend while helping to create safe and supportive learning environments.

Ikasi Lam Rugby Tournament spotlights township talent

Six local rugby teams from Nelson Mandela Bay took part in the recenlty launched Ikasi Lam Rugby tournament in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape.

The tournament aims to showcase township rugby, foster community spirit, and provide a pathway for players to secure professional contracts with the Eastern Province Rugby Union.

The tournament included three historic derbies which were played at Dan Qeqe Stadium in Zwide Township.

Tshwane to host major Gastronomy Conference

The City of Tshwane has officially secured the bid to host the Gastronomy Africa 2026 conference at
The CSIR International Convention Centre in August.

Mayoral committee member for Economic Development and Spatial Planning, Sarah Mabotsa, says the conference and expo are projected to inject an estimated 6.7-million-rand into the local economy.

She adds it will also provide a significant boost to the local tourism sector.
