Constitution Hill hosts 8th annual Human Rights festival

The Human Rights Festival has returned to the Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, marking its eighth edition as part of South Africa’s Human Rights Month commemorations.

This year’s programme places a strong emphasis on youth engagement, with a dedicated children’s zone designed to make learning both interactive and meaningful through art, theatre and play.

Programmes will be facilitated by Play Africa, which offers hands-on activities such as the Imagination Playground and the My Constitution and clay pottery. The organisation which is based at Constitution Hill will host educational programmes and museum tours aimed at teaching children about their rights and the country’s ’s liberation history.

Cape Town International Jazz Festival kicks off

The annual free jazz concert was hosted in Greenmarket Square in the City of Cape Town on Wednesday.

The event forms part of a broader week-long programme of music, culture and creativity, anchored by the Cape Town International Jazz Festival and featured artists including Zolani Mahola, Cameron Ward and Justin-Lee.

The Cape Town International Jazz festival continues on Saturday the 28th of March at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, with world-class performances across multiple stages.

LIV Golf set for 2027 return in Johannesburg

LIV Golf will return to The Club at Steyn City, South Africa from the 22nd of April next year, following a record-breaking 2026 event.
The debut drew over 100,000 fans, establishing the event as a major success and prompting the swift announcement of a 2027 return to Johannesburg.

SA Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Gayton McKenzie, and LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil, highlighted the economic impact, including a projected R740 million in activity.

Tickets for the 2027 event were made available for an early-bird period following the announcement.

Matty Smith wins top honour at 2026 underwater photographer contest

Australian photographer Matty Smith has won the top prize in the 2026 Underwater Photographer of the Year contest.

The image, titled Rockpool Rookies and features a pair of southern elephant seal pups, beat more than 7,900 entries from around the world, to claim the overall title.
The image took top place in the portrait category.

The chair of the judges, Marine ecologist Dr Alex Mustard, praised the shot's split-level perspective,
which was achieved using a custom-built dome port.

The annual competition spans 14 categories
testing photographers across a range of underwater themes such as Macro and Wide Angle Photography, as well as three categories for photos taken in British waters.
