28 Young Musicians Enter National Competition

A record 28 young South African musicians have been selected to compete in the National Youth Music Competition in Stellenbosch from 1 to 6 December.
The competition, open to classical musicians aged 14 to 19, received 50 entries, the highest since it began in 1984.
Contestants will perform across four rounds for a share of R180,000 in prize money and the opportunity to perform in the final with the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.
The finalists will be announced after the semi-final rounds during the week-long event.

2027 Gauteng School Applications Open

Parents can apply online for Grade 1 and Grade 8 placements at Gauteng public schools for the 2027 academic year from 5 August to 4 September 2026.
Applicants must register online, choose three to five schools and submit supporting documents within seven school days.
The Gauteng Department of Education has also opened 48 walk-in centres across the province to help parents complete their applications.
The department also reminds families to apply early as demand for school places continues to grow.

Hisense South Africa took 160 young football players from Khayelitsha on an educational trip to Table Mountain, the Hisense Atlantis Factory and the Tevolution Museum in Cape Town.
The children explored career opportunities, created a community mural and learned how technology is made while continuing their football training.
The Hands on the Future initiative aims to inspire young people to pursue careers in fields such as medicine, teaching, law and business, while using sport to build confidence and opportunity.
