Kids Fun Day brings smiles to 500 children

About 500 children from Kliptown, Eldorado Park and Westbury enjoyed a free day of fun, learning and friendship at the fourth annual Kids Fun Day hosted by Soldiers for Jesus Ministries at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.
The children received free transport, meals and refreshments while exploring the zoo and taking part in games and educational activities in a safe and caring environment.
The event also launched the For Kids By Kids leadership programme, which aims to equip young people with confidence and leadership skills.

Formula 1 fans across South Africa are getting a rare chance to meet Atlassian Williams driver Alex Albon as he visits the country following a month long roadshow in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg.
The visit gives supporters the opportunity to see a Williams Formula 1 car up close and enjoy fan experiences as the team strengthens its connection with one of the sport's most passionate fan base.
It is the first official visit by an active Williams driver to South Africa since Alain Prost raced at Kyalami in 1993.

Mandela Career Festival opens doors for Western Cape learners

About 2 000 learners gathered in Grabouw on Monday for the opening of the 2026 Mandela Day Career Development Festival, where they explored study, training and career opportunities after school.
The Department of Higher Education and Training brought together universities, TVET colleges, SETAs and industry partners to provide guidance on courses, bursaries, funding and career pathways.
Learners also received practical advice on choosing school subjects and applying early for post school education opportunities.

Winelands learners earn international award for TB research

Two Cape Winelands learners have received the Research Excellence Award at the International Children's Advisory Network Summit in Ireland for projects exploring tuberculosis detection and disease prevention.
Grade 11 learner Maria Manwadu investigated whether Artificial Intelligence can detect TB from a single chest X ray, while Grade 12 learner Reananetse Mbizo studied how effective homemade masks are at filtering airborne micro organisms.
The pair are part of the University of Cape Town's Youth Research Advisory Group, which helps young people conduct real world scientific research.
