New Programme To Tackle SA's STEM Skills Gap

The 2025 eduCate Matric Maths and Science Revision Programme is set to launch on Thursday, in a bid to address South Africa's growing STEM skills shortage.
Hosted by Liberty, a key partner in the programme, the initiative aims to equip young South Africans, particularly those from under-resourced communities, with the skills they need to succeed in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
The programme will be implemented in all 9 provinces using various methods such as Cinema-based learning in commercial theatres Mobile cinema units in-school support implementations to deliver a detailed Math and Science curriculum revision.
Liberty's Executive for Sustainable Impact Amelia says STEM choice is the building block for innovation, growth, and economic freedom.

Bana Pele Early Childhood Development Centres Registration Launched

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has launched the Bana Pele early childhood development centres registration at a roadmap leadership summit in Braamfontein in Johannesburg on Thursday.
The goal is to get all ECDC centres in South Africa registered.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana previously announced that Government allocated R10 million towards early childhood development.
Gwarube says for numeracy and literacy rates to improve, teaching and learning should begin at ECD level:

South Africa Finished 38th At The 2025 International Mathematics Olympiad

South Africa has won 1 Silver medal and 4 Bronze medals at the 2025 International Mathematics Olympiad in Australia.
South Africa finished 38th out of 110 countries.
The People’s Republic of China ranked first, followed by the United States, and the Republic of Korea.
The IMO is one of the biggest mathematics competitions in the world, where high school students compete to show off their mathematics skills.
