Durban library wins EIFL Public Library Innovation Award

Woodhurst Public Library in Durban has won the 19th EIFL Public Library Innovation Award for its STEM Makers programme.
Between 2023 and 2025, the library ran coding and robotics workshops with nine branch libraries, reaching 450 learners from under-resourced communities.
The programme uses tablets, laptops, and low-cost recyclable materials to teach digital and problem-solving skills.
According to the Good Things GUy, through partnerships with UKZN, Eskom Expo for Young Scientists, and Tangible Africa, the library expanded access to STEM education, with participating learners showing improved academic performance and stronger problem-solving skills.
