R10bn expansion to boost capacity and efficiency at Cape Town International Airport
Story 1
The Cape Town International Airport will undergo a R10 billion infrastructure upgrade to expand capacity, improve operational efficiency, and support tourism and trade in the Western Cape.
The upgrade programme includes the construction of a new main runway, valued at an estimated R6.39-billion to optimise air traffic operations while creating additional capacity for terminal expansion.
The 3,500-metre runway will be equipped with rapid-exit and partial parallel taxiways to reduce turnaround times and improve scheduling flexibility.
The phased upgrades form part of the Airports Company South Africa’s wider R21.7bn investment across its airport network.
