The Pan South African Language Board, in collaboration with Focal Points, has announced that “G20” is South Africa’s Word of the Year.The choice comes after reviewing a shortlist that included “Government of National Unity,” “Tariffs,” “Femicide,” and the “Madlanga Commission.” The selection was based on metrics, trends, and media presence, reflecting the significant public conversation around South Africa’s role in the G20 this year.

A new pilot project in Soweto is bringing local businesses closer together by building a township-owned supply chain. SPAZA Supply+, an initiative by KasiKonnect, has teamed up with green logistics startup ShoveBike to improve how local products get from manufacturers to spaza shops.By combining SPAZA Supply+’s network of local producers with ShoveBike’s electric cargo bikes, the partnership offers a simple, low-carbon way to handle last-mile deliveries. The goal is to keep things efficient while making sure value stays within the community.

The Black Coffee Foundation has delivered 4,800 food parcels to households across South Africa. Founded by DJ Black Coffee, the organisation has been raising funds to expand deliveries during the holiday period. 'Feed A Family and Share The Joy', kicked off earlier this month in KwaZulu-Natal, followed by Eastern Cape, then Gauteng, spreading joy and support to those in need. The project collects donations to buy and distribute food parcels to families affected by high food prices and job losses. A R1,000 donation feeds one family, with donors acknowledged on the parcel.
