Handmade gifts bring comfort to new mothers and babies

Around 150 handmade blankets, beanies and booties have been donated to new mothers at Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston.
The donation forms part of the Rotary Club of Johannesburg’s Mother and Child Project, in partnership with another Rotary club and the NGO Beanies, Booties and Blankets.
Women in KwaZulu Natal crocheted the items by hand, helping keep newborn babies warm and comfortable during their first weeks.

Former learner gives back to teacher

A Bellville teacher received a special surprise when a former learner she taught years ago visited her while she was receiving care at Melomed Bellville.
Gogo Nkazimlo Naledi Khau was reunited with Okuhle Mbenya, who is now part of the hospital’s top management team.
Mbenya arrived with flowers and chocolates, giving her former teacher the chance to see how far she had come since her school days.
Khau says the experience reminded her that the impact teachers make stays with learners long after they leave the classroom.
