Sci-Enza Brings VR To Schools

The University of Pretoria’s Sci-Enza Science Centre is taking virtual reality and other STEM learning experiences to under-resourced schools in and around Pretoria.
During a recent visit to TransOranje School for the Deaf, learners used VR headsets to explore solar energy, hydroelectricity and underwater environments.
The programme aims to give learners access to practical science experiences and support classroom learning.
Sci-Enza is working with the Department of Basic Education’s Tshwane South District to reach more schools in the area.

Tiger Brands Expands Entrepreneur Programme

At least 3,000 entrepreneurs across South Africa are set to benefit from Tiger Brands’ expansion of its Albany Bread-On-The-Streets programme over the next year.
More than 800 people are already running stands that sell Albany bread in high-footfall areas, earning about two rand per loaf.
Tiger Brands says it provides the entrepreneurs with branded stands, marketing materials and a regular supply of bread, creating opportunities for people to earn an income.
The expansion comes as youth unemployment remains high, with nearly five million young people aged 15 to 34 economically inactive and the unemployment rate in the age group at 47-point-four percent.

More than 150 Somali students have been awarded full Chinese government scholarships to study medicine, engineering and other specialised fields at universities across China.
The programme aims to equip them with skills needed in Somalia’s healthcare, engineering and technology sectors.
The students will have an opportunity to gain qualifications and return home to contribute to Somalia’s development.
