Soweto musicians shine on UK stages

Young musicians from the Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble have returned home after a successful UK tour.
The Diepkloof based ensemble performed alongside award winning chamber group Ensemble Hesperi at venues in London and Dorset.
Their performances combined Baroque classics with energetic township Kwela music, while workshops gave the young musicians further opportunities to develop their skills.

Diski Gogos keeps senior women active through football

Diski Gogos is creating opportunities for senior women to stay active, healthy and connected through their love of football.
The platform gives older women a space to participate in the sport, while documenting and celebrating their stories and passion for the game.
The initiative forms part of a growing movement of women aged 50 and above taking part in football across South Africa, with teams from communities in Gauteng and Limpopo competing in tournaments.
Founder and Director Babalwa Nhlapo says her own mother and her teammates inspired the initiative through their passion for the sport.

Using real world conflict scenarios, players identify international humanitarian law terms against the clock, including war crimes, safe zones and amnesty.
The four player game uses competition and quick decision making to turn lessons about armed conflict into an interactive experience.
Jane Patricia Bako, Prevention Manager at the International Committee of the Red Cross in Uganda, says the game makes complex legal principles more accessible while teaching the importance of protecting civilians during conflict.
