Medical student runs 21 races to support future doctors

University of Pretoria medical student Asekho Mbokodo has turned her 21st birthday into a fundraising challenge to support fellow students.
She ran 21 half marathon races, each 21.1 kilometres, to raise money for stethoscopes for third year medical students who cannot afford the essential clinical equipment.
Seven months later, Asekho completed all 21 races and raised more than R26 000, helping future doctors begin their clinical training with the tools they need.

Diski Gogos is creating opportunities for senior women to stay active, healthy and connected through their love of football.
The platform gives older women a space to participate in the sport, while documenting and celebrating their stories and passion for the game.
The initiative forms part of a growing movement of women aged 50 and above taking part in football across South Africa, with teams from communities in Gauteng and Limpopo competing in tournaments.
Founder and Director Babalwa Nhlapo says her own mother and her teammates inspired the initiative through their passion for the sport.

Special Olympics athletes gather in Rustenburg

Rustenburg is set to welcome 670 athletes and coaches from all nine provinces for the 2026 Special Olympics South Africa National Summer Games.
The three day event will feature seven sporting codes and help identify athletes who could represent South Africa at the 2027 World Summer Games in Chile.
The Games also promote inclusion, with more than 51 medical professionals receiving training to better support people with intellectual disabilities.
