A Nation of Light has launched an R80-for-80-years fundraising campaign to support Blind SA as it marks 80-years of serving blind and partially sighted people in South Africa.
The campaign asks individuals to donate R80 a month for eight months, or make a once-off donation of R800, while businesses can contribute R8,000 or R80,000.
The funds will support Braille production, accessible learning materials, advocacy and national programmes for people with vision loss.
The campaign is led by A Nation of Light founder Lindiwe Msiza, who says the initiative aims to recognise Blind SA’s work and help expand services for people living with vision loss.

SOS Africa has opened a new skills academy near Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, in the Western Cape, with its first 20 trainees starting courses aimed at improving their chances of employment.
The academy offers practical training in fields including information technology, care work, hospitality, horticulture and entrepreneurship.
Its first two courses, launched this week with Edunova, focus on IT support and a QCTO-accredited care-worker qualification.
The academy plans to expand its courses and work with employers and training providers to give more unemployed young people skills and experience for the job market.

African Women in Energy and Power and the University of Limpopo trained 60 entrepreneurs in Limpopo on business opportunities linked to South Africa’s energy transition.
The three-day masterclass covered renewable energy, hydrogen, nuclear power, natural gas, artificial intelligence and project finance.
Participants worked with experts from government, academia and industry and presented business ideas to an expert panel.
The Limpopo programme brought the number of entrepreneurs trained by AWEaP under the initiative to more than 160, following programmes in Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
