Leading Mining company Kumba Iron Ore has taken a pioneering step towards inclusivity and workplace safety with the introduction of maternity personal protective equipment, becoming the first mining company in South Africa to design specialised safety apparel, tailored for expecting mothers.
The company-wide programme includes custom-designed maternity safety wear, comprehensive maternity hampers and dedicated breastfeeding facilities across all operations.
The new range includes modified overalls that accommodate changing body shapes, offering greater flexibility, mobility and breathability, while still meeting the stringent protective requirements of the mining environment.
