A free home-based care training programme in Alexandra is addressing youth unemployment while expanding support for vulnerable communities.
Gift of Day, in partnership with Sibongile Home Based Care, has launched the second phase this month.
More than 70 young people have enrolled in the eight-week certified course, which trains participants in home care, nursing and community support.
Organisers plan to increase intake to over 100 and prepare graduates for work in clinics, hospitals and care organisations.

More than 4-million tickets for the 2028 Summer Olympics were sold in the first global sales window.
Buyers from 85 countries purchased tickets, with strong demand from the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico and Japan.
Organisers reported that 95% of tickets under $100 were sold, with women’s events selling more than men’s sessions.
Gymnastics sold out fastest, while new sports including flag football, softball and squash also sold all available tickets.
