The 14th edition of the Motherwell Freedom Run took place in Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, attracting more than 1 600 runners across all age groups.
The annual event is held in celebration of Freedom Month and aims to encourage fitness and an active lifestyle within the community.
Organisers say the run continues to grow each year, bringing together both experienced athletes and recreational runners in a shared celebration of health and unity.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Sports, Arts and Culture MMC says the event also created temporary jobs and boosted local economic activity during the race period

A new AI powered WhatsApp training programme has been launched in South Africa to help teachers identify early signs of hearing loss in children.
Developed by the University of Pretoria in partnership with the hearX Foundation, the free programme uses a chatbot to guide educators through short training modules on recognising hearing difficulties and supporting early referrals.
More than 10 thousand teachers and parents enrolled within two weeks of launch, highlighting strong demand for accessible training. The initiative aims to improve early detection in classrooms, where many cases of hearing loss are first noticed, helping children receive support sooner.
