From September 21 to October 18, South Africa observes Eyecare Awareness Month, emphasizing the need for regular eye tests and prevention of avoidable blindness.
The rising prevalence of type 2 diabetes has increased the risk of cataracts, a leading cause of blindness.
To combat this, the OSSA Right to Sight Trust will perform over 1-thousand free cataract surgeries in 2025.
Around 700 of these surgeries will take place during the awareness month.
