New Beginnings Daycare in the Clay Oven informal settlement is getting a major boost after a story in the Fourways Review inspired an outpouring of community support.
The centre, founded by Zola Kupa to keep local children safe, caught the attention of Fourways resident Bernadette Oeschger, who stepped in to help improve the facility.
Through her business network, families and companies have begun donating furniture, art supplies, and playground shading, with plans to add a new classroom container soon.
The partnership has turned one man’s dream into a growing community effort, giving children a safer and brighter start.

The South African Mathematics Foundation recently honoured the nation’s top young mathematicians at its annual awards ceremony.
Grade 12 learner Moied Baleg from The Settlers High School claimed the prestigious gold Dirk van Rooy medal for the South African Mathematics Olympiad.
At primary school level, Ivy Williams from Sweet Valley Primary School won the South African Mathematics Challenge, with her school also recognised as the top performing institution.

The Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards has revealed its 2025 finalists, showcasing hilarious and heartwarming wildlife moments.
Photographers from 108 countries submitted nearly 10 000 entries, capturing animals in playful and unexpected poses.
Highlights include a dancing gorilla in Rwanda, a Sri Lankan elephant playing peek-a-boo, and a Madagascar lemur mid-gesture.
Other favourites feature a spooked hornbill in South Africa, two Asian water monitors in a tussle, and a gibbon with human-like expressions.
The competition celebrates wildlife photography while promoting conservation and appreciation of the planet’s species.
Winners will be announced on 9 December in London, followed by a week-long exhibition of all finalists
