Residents, volunteers mark Better Bryanston year
Story 2
Residents and volunteers gathered at Bryanston Country Club last week as Better Bryanston reflected on a year of community-driven clean-up efforts in the suburb.
Since launching in May last year, the non-profit has organised weekly clean-ups to tackle illegal dumping, litter, and overgrown public spaces in Bryanston.
The group says local residents and donors have helped fund the initiative, which now spends about five-thousand rand a week on labour and maintenance.
Better Bryanston hopes to expand clean-ups to twice a week as it continues working to restore and maintain public spaces in the community.

Ravensmead youth restore community spaces
Story 3
Young people in Ravensmead, Cape Town, are helping to restore their community by painting over gang graffiti, cleaning neglected spaces, and assisting elderly residents with home improvements.
The work forms part of the Dignify the Youth initiative, supported by Plascon and the HOOD Youth Development Project, which aims to give at-risk youth --positive alternatives to crime and gangsterism.
The project has already helped repaint six homes and a community centre in Uitsig while encouraging young people to take pride in their neighbourhood.
