Hoërskool Menlopark clinched the St Anne’s Cup title with a 2-0 win over Our Lady of Fatima in the final on Sunday.
The Pretoria side impressed with their unity and attacking flair, capping off a tough journey that included a quarterfinal win over Durban Girls’ College and a dramatic shootout victory against Eunice.
Carlia Potgieter scored both goals in the final, while captain Zoe Badenhorst and goalkeeper Annika Kloppers walked away with individual honours.
The tournament, hosted at St Anne’s Diocesan College, saw twelve top school teams compete in what organisers hailed as a major step forward for girls’ hockey in South Africa.

The Gauteng Department of Social Development marked its second annual World Book Day on Saturday, 12 May at the Desmond Tutu Child and Youth Care Centre in the Northern Corridor.
Sithembile Ndlovu, a Child and Youth Care Worker, encouraged the youth to develop a reading routine, urging them to read at least two books a week and share stories with their peers.
Assistant Director Simphiwe Nzama highlighted reading as a vital educational and cultural tool, noting the global aim of World Book Day to foster literacy and storytelling.
Children from various care centres took part in lively book reviews, sharing lessons on kindness, identity, and family values.
One participant challenged the audience to reflect on self-awareness and personal growth.
The event reinforced reading as a key to empowerment, confidence, and lifelong learning, inspiring young attendees to embrace books as a path to knowledge and connection.
