Joburg Tennis Grassroots Foundation Supports Young Players

The Joburg Tennis Grassroots Foundation hosted a community tennis weekend at Ellis Park Tennis Centre, where young players received new racquets, shoes and other equipment to support their development.
More than 120 children from clubs and schools across Johannesburg took part in two days of coaching, skills development and fitness assessments, with support from University of Johannesburg students, coaches and community partners.
The event also celebrated the unveiling of the Ellis Park Tennis Centre's Blue Plaque, recognising its rich tennis heritage.

Dreamfields Project Inspires Young Athletes in Limpopo

The Dreamfields Project spent the weekend in Mokopetsi and Ga Sekororo villages in Limpopo, where children took part in soccer and netball activities designed to promote healthy lifestyles and teamwork.
Learners also received sports kits, boots, balls and DreamBags filled with essential equipment, giving them the resources they need to participate in organised school sport.
For the past 19 years, the initiative has partnered with schools across South Africa to expand access to sport and support young people in their personal development.
Dreamfields says its work is ultimately about developing future leaders through sport.

Gwarube Announces New Measures for School Performance

Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube says South Africa will measure school performance using more than just matric pass rates from the 2026 National Senior Certificate results.
Speaking at the National Education Excellence Awards in Johannesburg on Friday, Gwarube said the new approach will also assess learner retention, Bachelor passes, distinctions, participation in key subjects and support for learners with disabilities to encourage a stronger focus on the overall quality of education.
