UJ and GWF partner to support rural students

The University of Johannesburg and the Good Work Foundation have joined in a 3-year partnership to support rural students in South Africa.
The collaboration will see UJ postgraduate students conduct fieldwork at GWF campuses in Hazyview and Bushbuckridge, and study how the foundation’s programmes improve skills and work readiness.
The partnership gives school-leavers access to digital, entrepreneurship and career skills training, helping them enter jobs, start businesses, or continue their studies.
The collaboration is helping GWF reach rural communities and make a bigger impact.

Huawei empowers SA coders

Code4Mzansi is inviting South African students, start-ups and tech entrepreneurs to build cloud and artificial intelligence solutions that solve real-world problems.
Participants first complete online training and receive access to development tools and mentorship before spending three months building their projects.
The competition by Huawei, in partnership with the Department of Small Business Development and several universities, has attracted 353 teams made up of more than 1,000 participants.
The winners will share prize money of just under one million rand and gain exposure to industry networks to help grow their digital businesses.

SA and Korean chefs unite

The South African Chefs Association and the Korean Cultural Centre in South Africa have joined forces to share culinary traditions from both countries.
The partnership will bring chefs together to demonstrate cooking techniques, lead masterclasses, and host a joint Chef’s Table experience in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
As part of the programme a Korean-South African Culinary Exchange was held last month, giving chefs and food lovers a chance to learn, taste and explore new flavours.
Korean Cultural Centre's Jaeil Lee says through its partnership with SA Chefs, the organisation aims to deepen cultural exchange:

Spotify marks 5 years of operations in Nigeria, Kenya and Ghana

Sportify is marking five years of operations in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya after launching in the three markets in February 2021.
The streaming platform says users across the three countries have created more than 38 million playlists, with Nigeria leading, followed by Kenya and Ghana.
In Kenya, streams have grown by an average of 68 percent each year through 2025, while the number of Kenyan artists uploading music to the platform has more than doubled since launch.
Afrobeats dominates the charts, with Asake leading streams in Nigeria, Black Sherif topping Ghana’s rankings, and Drake heading Kenya’s most-streamed artist list.
