The Empower Gauteng Residents initiative brought community members together at The Plot Studios in Carlswald earlier this month.
The event included discussions on skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, business funding and mental health.
Organisers say the initiative aims to connect residents with resources, training and opportunities that can improve their economic prospects.

WomenCan will host its 2026 WomenCan Awards in Midrand on 29 August, as part of the A Night of Mystery Gala.
The awards will recognise women working in business, education, innovation and community development across ten categories, including entrepreneurship, leadership and empowerment.
A panel discussion on empowerment and transformation will take place before the awards ceremony.
The event will also bring previous and new recipients together to celebrate women strengthening communities and opening opportunities for others.

16 U19 Girls’ Teams Compete in Curro Cup

Sixteen U19 girls’ football teams from across South Africa competed in the first Curro Halala Cup in Johannesburg earlier this month.
The tournament gave young players a national platform to compete, develop their skills and gain valuable experience.
Girls’ football teams across the Curro network have more than doubled in the past three years, with several players progressing to higher levels of the sport.
The tournament ended with the first girls’ final, crowning the inaugural Curro Halala Cup champions.
